Oulton Park's signature Historic Gold Cup returns this weekend (25-27 August) with a celebration of local motor racing history, highlighting the northern horsepower of renowned racing car manufacturer Chevron.
This year's racing line-up will be headlined by the special, one-off Chevron B8 50th Anniversary Race in Memory of Derek Bennett, as a tribute to both five decades of the manufacturer's most successful GT racing car, and its founder - Manchester-born Bennett.
Grahame White, CEO of the Historic Sports Car Club and sales manager at Chevron in the early 1970s, said: "The Chevron B8 is one of the most desirable and sought-after sports-racing cars and we decided to mark the car's 50th anniversary with a race at Oulton Park. Derek Bennett was a truly gifted race car designer and constructor but was a very unassuming character. I think he would be amazed, but quietly rather pleased, that we are celebrating 50 years of one his most successful designs."
The special race will top an eclectic bank holiday weekend programme, which will feature touring cars, single-seaters, and sports-racing cars from the '50s through to the '90s. The Tarporley parkland setting remains as picturesque as ever, making it the perfect backdrop against which to watch this classic machines.
Three generations of saloon car will be represented to coincide with the British Touring Car Championship's 60th anniversary season. This weekend's line-up includes two races for the Super Touring Cars, as originally built and raced during the BTCC's fondly-remembered '90s period.
Aside from the race content, there will be plenty to keep bank holiday revellers in a nostalgic mood, from themed live music to one of the biggest classic car displays you'll see in northern Britain this year. There will be retro rallying displays and F1 demonstrations too in an all-out celebration of motor racing's past.
