Oulton Park’s past will be celebrated on the Gold Cup’s traditional August Bank Holiday weekend date (26-28 August), and this will include a nod to the venue’s past as a World War II staging camp with a number of retro military displays within the circuit infield.
Off-track pageantry is a major part of the Gold Cup’s appeal, with masses of vehicle displays, and the ever-growing military displays have proved to be a hugely popular addition in recent seasons. This year’s military content will be bigger and better than ever before, with a wide range of vehicles, and characters appearing.
The selection of machines appearing will include Jeeps, weapon-carriers, ambulances, and motorcycles from both the Allied and German sides of the conflict. New additions for this year will include a stunning German Messerschmitt 109, which hasn’t previously appeared at the Gold Cup.
Another major new element for this year will be an American Civil War living diorama which will feature full costume characters camping in period style throughout the weekend. Other characters appearing will include full costume Winston Churchill and Field Marshal Montgomery. Plus, there will be countless other soldiers and military personnel to provide some cracking photo opportunities.
All of these will serve as a stunning retro backdrop for the weekend’s retro race programme which will celebrate all that was great and good about the sport’s past.
