Sir Jackie Stewart, who won the Formula 2 class of the Oulton Park Gold Cup 50 years ago before going on to win the event outright the following year in 1968, has sent a message of goodwill to this a weekend’s (26-28 August) competitors ahead of Historic F2’s return to the event:
“As a previous race winner at the Oulton Park Gold Cup, driving a Matra, may I wish all the drivers racing this weekend every success.
“I have many happy memories for this formula and also of this circuit as in fact, Oulton Park was one of my great favourites as a race track in the UK because it was the first circuit that I drove a racing car on, before I got picked up by Ecurie Ecosse and Ken Tyrrell later on.”
Best regards to all concerned,
Sir Jackie Stewart OBE
This year’s Historic Gold Cup will be headlined by the Historic F2 FIA International Series, for F2 cars from the ‘60s and ‘70s, and the aggregate winner from the weekend’s two races will lift the Historic Gold Cup itself on the Monday.
